Choosing which staff do each service
How to set which staff can do each service, from the staff profile or from the service menu, and how to give one stylist their own price or commission.
StyleDesk only lets you book a service with someone who does it. When you pick a service in the booking window, the staff list shows only people at that branch who do it and are free at that time. Keeping this list right is what stops a junior being booked for a bridal makeup.
You can set it from either side, a person or a service; both change the same list. If you named staff in the Excel import or ticked services in the Add staff wizard, it is already filled in (see adding services and adding staff).
From the staff member
- Go to Staff, open the person and choose the Services tab. It lists what they are assigned to, with a count on the tab.
- Click Manage services. Every service appears, grouped by category, with a search box, Select all, Clear, and Select group for each category.
- Tick everything they do, untick anything they do not, and click Save services. A message tells you how many were added and removed.
Unticked services are taken off them. Services they keep also keep any price or commission you set for them.
To add one service with its own price in one step, click Assign one instead: choose the Service, fill in Custom Price or Commission Override % if needed, and click Save.
From the service, for many people at once
- On Services & Menu, open the category and click Staff next to the service. The Staff Capabilities window lists the Currently Assigned Staff.
- Under Add Capable Staff, pick one person in Staff Member, or pick Everyone not yet assigned to give the service to every active staff member who does not have it yet.
- For one person you can also fill Custom Price (Opt) and Comm. % (Opt). The Everyone option always uses the standard price and commission.
- Click Assign. To take someone off, click Remove next to their name and confirm.
Everyone not yet assigned really means everyone active: receptionists and staff at other branches included. Remove anyone who should not have it.
A stylist's own price or commission
A senior stylist often charges more for the same service. On their Services tab, each service card shows Standard Price or their own price. Hover over the card and click the edit button to open Edit Capability:
- Custom Price: what this person charges for the service. Leave it empty to use the service's base price. Bookings with them are quoted at this price, and promotions and client special prices are worked out from it.
- Commission Override %: their commission on this service instead of their usual rate. Leave it empty to use their default rate. See pay and commission.
Click Save. Bookings already made keep the price they were quoted. The time a service takes is always the service's own duration; it cannot be set per person.
Who can do this
- Owners and managers can change a staff member's services from the Staff page.
- Only the owner sees the Staff button on Services & Menu, because only the owner can change the service menu.
