Adding services and categories
How to build your service menu in StyleDesk: categories and sub-categories, services with price and duration, uploading the whole menu from Excel, and choosing who does what.
Your menu is categories (Hair, Nails, Makeup…) with services inside them. Every booking and every bill starts from this list, so get the names, prices and durations right once and everything downstream is right too.
Option 1: upload the whole menu from Excel
Best for a new salon or a long menu.
- Go to Services & Menu and click Import from Excel.
- Download the template. It opens on the Services sheet with example rows showing the format; replace them with your own.
- Fill one service per row: Service Name, Category, Price and Time (minutes). Description, Staff (names of the people who do it, comma-separated) and Active are optional. Categories you name here are created for you; use the Categories sheet only if you want sub-categories, such as Hair → Colour.
- Upload the file and click Check file. You see a preview of every row: New, Update, No change, or Needs fixing with the reason. Nothing is saved yet.
- Fix anything flagged, re-upload, then click Import now.
Uploading the same file again later changes nothing, and uploading it with new prices updates only what changed, so you can keep the spreadsheet as your master price list.
Option 2: add them one by one
A category
- On Services & Menu click Add Category.
- Give it a Category Name. Pick a Parent Category only when you want it nested under another one. Save.
A service
- Click Add Service.
- Fill in Service Name, Category, Price and Duration (min). The duration is what the calendar uses to block the stylist's time, so be realistic: a colour that takes two hours should say 120.
- Optionally add a description, a photo (shown on your booking website) and, if you have more than one branch, tick the Available Branches.
- Click Save Service.
Who does what
A service can only be booked with a staff member who does it. Set that from the staff side: open a staff member, choose Services, and tick the ones they do. If you named staff in the Excel Staff column, that is already done. To give one service to many people at once, open the service and use the staff assignment there.
Changing prices later
Edit the service, or re-upload your spreadsheet with the new prices. Existing bookings keep the price they were quoted at; new bookings use the new one.
