Using the Setup guide

How the Setup guide tracks a new salon's progress, what counts as done for each step, and when the dashboard banner goes away.

The Setup guide is a checklist of what a new salon needs before it is really running. It works out for itself what is done, so you never have to tick anything off. For what to do in your first hour, see setting up your salon: the first hour.

Open the Setup guide

  1. Click Setup guide in the left-hand menu, or Open setup guide on the dashboard banner. Owners and managers have it.
  2. The page shows how many steps are done (for example "3 of 7 done") with a progress bar. Do the steps in any order.
  3. Each open step has a main button and, often, a second way to do it. A finished step shows a tick and an Open button.

The SMS step only appears with the SMS add-on, and the website step only with the Website add-on.

The business profile step

This step is a short wizard of four parts: Business details, Opening hours, Currency & tax and Receipt. The guide shows how far you have got, such as "2 of 4 done - next: opening hours", and Continue setup opens the next part.

Business details counts as done as soon as the name, phone, address and city are filled in. The other three count only once you have saved them in the wizard, even if the starting values already look right. See setting up your business profile.

The dashboard banner

While required steps are open, owners and managers see Finish setting up your salon on the dashboard, with what is still to do: the business profile (with its count), the service menu and your team. It goes away once those three are done; optional steps never keep it on screen. The banner can take a couple of minutes to catch up, but opening the Setup guide brings it up to date straight away.

Who can finish which step

  • Only the owner can fill in the business profile wizard. A manager who clicks Start is told "Only the salon owner can set up the business profile."
  • Importing or adding services needs permission to manage the service menu, which only owners have by default.
  • Owners and managers can add staff and customers.
  • Printer settings are for owners.
Tip. When the required steps are done the page says The essentials are done. The optional steps stay listed, so you can come back to them whenever you are ready.
