Connecting a receipt printer

How to pair the print agent on your till computer, add a USB or network receipt printer, print a sample, and revoke a computer you no longer use.

StyleDesk runs online, so it cannot reach a printer on your counter by itself. A small program called the print agent runs on your front-desk computer and passes each receipt to the printer. You set it up once per branch.

Before you start

  • Receipt printing is part of the Pro and Business plans. Printer settings are for owners by default.
  • Printers and the agent belong to one branch. If you have several, pick the branch at the top of the page first; in All Branches the card asks you to.
  • You need the print agent program on the front-desk computer. If you do not have it, ask StyleDesk support.
  • For a USB printer, install the printer's own Windows driver first and note its name in Windows Printers & scanners.

1. Pair the front-desk computer

  1. Go to Settings → Business Settings → Printer Settings. In the Print agent card, click Pair a PC.
  2. A one-time code appears. It works once, expires after 10 minutes and is shown only now; if it expires, make a new one.
  3. On the front-desk computer, run the print agent the first time with the command shown under the code. It starts with "SaloonERP Print Agent.exe" --pair --server and already contains your portal address.
  4. Type the code when the agent asks for it.
  5. Back in the portal the card shows the computer's name and Online.

On Windows that first command also makes the agent start each time someone signs in to the computer, with no administrator rights needed. Offline means the portal has not heard from the agent for a couple of minutes: start it again on that computer. A branch has one agent at a time.

2. Add the printer

  1. Under Branch Printers, click Add Printer.
  2. Give it a Printer Name, such as "Front desk".
  3. Choose the Connection Type:
    • USB: type the Printer Name (USB) exactly as Windows shows it (on a Mac or Linux computer, the printer's queue name).
    • LAN / Ethernet: type the IP Address (LAN) and Port, usually 9100.
  4. Pick the Paper Width, 58 mm or 80 mm, and tick Enable Auto-Cut if the printer has a cutter.
  5. Tick Default receipt printer for this branch. Only one printer per branch can be the default.
  6. Click Save Configuration.

3. Print a sample

Click Print Sample on the printer's row. A test receipt goes through the agent; if the agent is offline, it prints if the agent starts within 15 minutes. Test Connection tells you whether the agent is online.

How receipts print from then on

When a bill is fully paid, its receipt is sent to the branch's default printer automatically, once. With no default printer nothing prints, but the receipt still opens on screen. A printer problem never affects the payment itself. What the receipt says is set in the Receipt Profile.

Change, remove or revoke

  • Edit on a printer's row changes its settings; Delete in that window removes it.
  • Revoke in the Print agent card stops that computer from printing for good. Use it when you replace or lose the computer, then click Pair a PC on the new one.
Tip. If receipts stop printing, check the Print agent card first. If it says Offline, the agent is not running on the front-desk computer: start it there. Receipts wait for the agent for 15 minutes; older ones are not printed, but every bill's receipt can still be opened on screen.
