Managing SMS opt-outs

How to stop sending offers to a client who asks, what the opt-out list does and does not block, and how to remove a number from it.

Some clients will not want your offers by SMS. The opt-out list is where you record that, so no campaign ever reaches them again. Honouring it quickly keeps clients' trust and stops them blocking your number altogether.

What the list does

  • A number on the list gets no offers from your salon. Every campaign skips it, and the campaign's Not sent list says "This number asked not to get offers."
  • Sign-in codes and booking messages still reach it. A client who opts out of offers can still sign in and still gets their booking messages.
  • The list belongs to your salon and covers every phone you have paired.

The opt-out list is part of the SMS add-on, which StyleDesk switches on for your salon. Only owners can see and change it by default.

Open the list

Click SMS campaigns in the sidebar, then Opt-outs. The page lists every number that has opted out, or says Nobody has opted out.

When a client asks to stop

Clients tell you in their own way: a message back, a phone call, a word at the front desk. Whichever it is, add their number straight away:

  1. On Opt-outs, type the number into Mobile number, such as 0300 1234567.
  2. Click Add. The page confirms: Added. That number gets no more offers.

Campaigns you send from then on leave that number out, and the preview count on a new campaign already reflects it. When you send a campaign, you tick a box promising to do exactly this, so make it part of the front desk's routine.

Clients who turned off SMS

Separately from the opt-out list, a client whose SMS messages are turned off is left out of every campaign automatically. You do not need to add them to the list as well.

Remove a number

Only do this when the client has asked to get your offers again.

  1. Find the number on Opt-outs and click Remove next to it.
  2. The page confirms: Removed. That number can get offers again.

Their number is included in campaigns again from the next one you send, as long as it matches the audience you choose.

Tip. End your offers with a short line such as "Reply STOP to stop offers". Replies arrive on the sending phone like any other SMS, so check it after each campaign and add those numbers the same day. See sending an SMS campaign for writing the message.
